Granular (0-0-7) — In stock Liquid (65 WDG) — V2 in development
Prodiamine is the same active ingredient used by lawn-care pros to stop crabgrass and other weeds before they germinate. It comes in two formats — granular (apply with a spreader) and liquid WDG concentrate (mix and spray) — and the rates differ between them. This guide covers both.
Choose Granular if you already own a spreader and want the simplest application — no measuring or mixing required.
Choose Liquid WDG if you own a backpack or pump sprayer and want to dial in the application rate by season.
Both formats deliver the same season-long crabgrass prevention. If you don't have a strong preference, granular is the lower-friction option for most homeowners. Download our free app (iOS) or Android and we'll tell you exactly when to apply based on your local soil temperature.
Application Rate: 3 lbs per 1,000 sq ft
Coverage: The 18 lb bag covers 6,000 sq ft; the 45 lb bag covers 15,000 sq ft.
When to Apply: In spring or fall, when soil temperatures are between 55°F and 70°F. For crabgrass, apply twice in spring.
Important: Do NOT apply if you're seeding or overseeding — Prodiamine prevents new seed from germinating.

If you need WDG today, you can find it at retailers like DoMyOwn. If you'd rather not wait, our granular Prodiamine 0-0-7 uses the same active ingredient — different application method, same crabgrass prevention.
The rest of this guide still covers WDG mixing rates and application so you have the reference whenever you need it.
Prodiamine 65 WDG is a professional formulation and can be mixed in several different concentrations depending on your grass type, approach, and how long you want the application to last. The 5 oz bottle is sized specifically for DIYers managing one lawn. Below are rates based on our strategy created for DIYers — the label allows for different application amounts based on grass type, so find yours below.
Tall Fescue, Bermuda, St Augustine, Centipede, Zoysia, and Bahia Grasses
Early Spring as soil temps approach 55°F
.183oz / 5.2g per 1,000 sq ft
Mid Spring as soil temps cross 65°F heading to 70°F
.183oz / 5.2g per 1,000 sq ft
Fall as soil temps fall to 70°F coming out of summer
.46oz / 13g per 1,000 sq ft
Total = .83oz / 23.5g per 1,000 sq ft per year
These dosages are to be mixed in 1 gallon of water to make a spray mix. This mix should then be evenly applied across 1,000 sq ft of lawn area. Water in with ½" of water within 24 hours.

Kentucky Bluegrass, Ryegrass
Early Spring as soil temps approach 55°F
.183oz / 5.2g per 1,000 sq ft
Mid Spring as soil temps cross 65°F heading to 70°F
.183oz / 5.2g per 1,000 sq ft
Fall as soil temps fall to 70°F coming out of summer
.183oz / 5.2g per 1,000 sq ft
Total = .55oz / 15.6g per 1,000 sq ft per year
These dosages are to be mixed in 1 gallon of water to make a spray mix. Apply evenly across 1,000 sq ft. Water in with ½" within 24 hours.
The reason KBG and Ryegrass have fewer "pounds on the ground" yearly than warm-season grasses and turf-type tall fescue is that the label requires it. The label allows more for grasses grown further south and into the transition zone since their seasons are longer. If your lawn is a mix of KBG, Rye, and Tall Fescue, you can choose to use the greater application amounts if you think you need them.
Tall Fescue, Bermuda, St Augustine, Centipede, Zoysia, and Bahia Grasses
Following the rates above, you'll use .83oz or 23.5g per 1,000 sq ft per year. The 5 oz / 141.7g bottle covers 6,000 sq ft for one full season (2 spring applications + 1 fall application). Math: 5 ÷ .83 = 6.02; 141.7 ÷ 23.5 = 6.02.
Kentucky Bluegrass, Ryegrass
You'll use .55oz / 15.6g per 1,000 sq ft per year. The 5 oz / 141.7g bottle covers 9,000 sq ft for one full season. Math: 5 ÷ .55 = 9.09; 141.7 ÷ 15.6 = 9.09.
