Scotts® ProVista™ Kentucky Blue Grass Seed: You’ve been waiting for it, and it’s finally here; Scotts ProVista Kentucky Bluegrass is available for sale to the public exclusively through Yard Mastery and The Lawn Care Nut.

Scotts ProVista KBG is a mix of 3 hand-selected varieties of Kentucky Bluegrass: PinMill, Delirium, and Vertigo (see image of label in this listing). These have been engineered with ProVista’s exclusive attributes of glyphosate tolerance, slower growing, and, therefore, darker green color.

This grass is awesome, but it requires some different care, and I want you to know what to expect, so before purchasing, please watch these two videos from me, Allyn Hane, President of Yard Mastery.

Description: Maintaining the lawn has never been easier! ProVista™Kentucky Bluegrass is bioengineered to be glyphosate tolerant, which means that you can seed in the spring or fall without worry as you can tackle whatever weed may try to steal the show. You can also take out troublesome weeds like Poa Annua, Bentgrass, and Goosegrass with glyphosate without damaging your turf!

ProVista™ is a slow grower, hitting a peak of 3 inches, which provides what we love to call “mowing forgiveness”, meaning if you miss a mow, the lawn will still sit proud and pretty, awaiting your triumphant return without becoming overgrown and messy.

It’s a perfect choice for cooler northern climates and requires just a fraction of the fertilizer needed to maintain lush, deep green grass once it is established. Because of its slow-growing nature, the chlorophyll parts of this Kentucky Blue are all compact and tighter than traditional grasses, allowing it to be a lush, durable lawn with rich emerald to blue-green hues and medium-to-fine texture that begs for bare feet.

**Because ProVista™ is a little more difficult to establish, it cannot have any competition in the lawn and is therefore NOT recommended for overseeding. It is ONLY recommended if you are completely starting over, meaning you plan to kill off your existing lawn and seed with only ProVista. It is not meant to be used for overseeding into an existing lawn. It will not overtake whatever else is already there.

How much seed to use? **Recommended Seeding Rate: 2.5lbs/1,000

    •  5 lb: Covers 2,000 sq ft
    • 15 lb: Covers 6,000 sq ft
    • 30 lb: Covers 15,000 sq ft

    Application Information:

    • Area Preparation:
      • 5 weeks before seeding, kill existing vegetation with an application of Ortho® GroundClear® Super Concentrate1 according to the lawn renovation instructions.
      • 1 week before seeding, apply a second application of Ortho®GroundClear® Super Concentrate1 to any areas with recovering weeds.
      • 1 week after the second application, remove dead vegetative matter by mowing at the lowest setting (leaving some vegetative material behind will help with seed stability as well as moisture retention).
    • Seed Installation:
      • Apply ProVistaTM seed at a rate of 2.5 lbs/1,000 ft2
      • Seed should be applied with a piece of mechanical equipment in multiple directions to avoid skips and should have good soil contact to ensure successful seed establishment.
      • If seeding occurs on severe slopes, consider using some material to help prevent seed movement due to excessive moisture (seed blankets, straw, hydro-mulch).
      • Apply Scotts® Turf Builder® Triple Action Built for Seeding the day of seeding at label rates.
    • Seed Establishment:
      • Irrigate the seeded area a minimum of 2-3 times per day to ensure soil surface remains moist, not wet, while seed is germinating (3-4 weeks). Reduce frequency and/or amount of irrigation based on rainfall and any local regulations. Shaded areas will require less water. Full sun areas will need more water.
      • 28 days after seeding, apply a second application of Scotts® Turf Builder® Triple Action Built for Seeding at label rates. Irrigate after fertilizer is applied. After the seed has completely germinated (approximately 28 days after seeding), reduce irrigation events to 1-2 times per week, giving the grass 1⁄2” of water each time. Reduce frequency and/or amount based on rainfall and any local regulations. Shaded areas will require less water. Continue applying Scotts® Turf Builder® Starter® Food for New Grass every 21-28 days until the turf has fully established. During stressful stretches of weather where it is hot and dry, additional irrigation may be required.
