What bio-stimulants do for DIY turf

Bio-stimulants improve soil and root zone health so your lawn can use water and nutrients more efficiently. Unlike traditional fertilizers, which feed the lawn macronutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium (NPK), bio-stimulants support natural soil biology and root development. Common ingredients include humic acid, seaweed extract, and beneficial microbes, which help build stronger root systems, improve nutrient uptake, and increase drought and stress tolerance over time.

Bio-stimulants are not a substitute for a full NPK fertilizer program. Instead, use them alongside your regular feeding schedule to get more out of every application. Deep product science, mix/rates, and how-tos live in Help Center, the Bio-Stimulant Guide, and Yard Mastery videos (linked below). Then open the free Yard Mastery App for timing in your lawn plan.

How to choose — match the job to the product

Skip “best bio-stimulant” guesswork. Match the product to the job you need done on your lawn (ACTIVE on this collection — link PDPs; don’t re-essay science):

Also on this grid (ACTIVE · adjacent intent — link, don’t essay here): Moisture Max → moisture lane /collections/soil-moisture-management; Hydr8 (wetting agent); GreeneKick; Soil Fit (also granular-bio); Build-a-Box kits; Seeding / Soil Activator / Shrub-Tree-Palm packs; multi-gallon combos (including legacy handle compaction-cure = RGS+Air-8 combo, not the Compaction Cure SKU).

Still stuck? Use the Yard Mastery App to time applications by your grass type and soil temperature, not guesswork.

Bio-stimulant vs fertilizer

Bio-stimulants support soil, roots, moisture, and stress response. Fertilizer feeds the turf with a planned NPK program (Flagship, Stress Blend, Double Dark, Natural line, etc.).

They work together, but they do not do the same job. Shop granular fertilizers → granular fertilizers. Liquid fertilizers → liquid fertilizers. All fertilizers → all fertilizers.

Compaction Cure vs Air-8 (and the handle trap)

Compaction Cure (compaction-cure-yard-mastery) is the all-in-one liquid soil amendment many programs call for. It helps create space in the soil and promotes root growth and health. It is built to cover compaction, humic/kelp support, and wetting in one bottle.

Air-8 (air8-liquid-aeration) is only liquid aeration for when you want that job on its own (or inside a combo).

Note for operators: the older handle /products/compaction-cure is the RGS + Air-8 five-gallon combo, not the Compaction Cure SKU. Shoppers should use the Compaction Cure PDP link above. Deep overview → Compaction Cure (HC).

Frequently asked questions

What does a lawn bio-stimulant do?

A lawn bio-stimulant supports the soil and turf root zone, helping grass use available water and nutrients more efficiently. Rather than acting like a traditional fertilizer, a bio-stimulant helps stimulate natural processes that promote stronger roots, healthier soil, and improved lawn performance. Overview pack → How should I use the N-Ext Bio-Stimulant Pack?.

Compaction Cure or Air-8 — which should I buy?

Compaction Cure combines liquid aeration, humic and fulvic acids, sea kelp, and a wetting agent. Air-8 is designed to create space in the soil, improve water movement, and encourage deeper rooting. For most homeowners who want a convenient, multi-purpose solution, Compaction Cure is the better choice. If you only need liquid aeration or are building your own lawn-care program with separate bio-stimulants, Air-8 may be the better fit. Details → Compaction Cure (HC).

What is Spoon Juice for?

Spoon Juice is a 5-0-1 liquid fertilizer and bio-stimulant that improves lawn color, supports turf growth, and provides a boost of iron, nitrogen, humic acid, and sea kelp. It is formulated to help lawns develop a deeper blue-green color without encouraging excessive growth. Guide → Spoon Juice (HC).

What rates / can I mix RGS, Humic12, Air-8, MicroGreene?

Rates and mix rules live in Help Center—do not guess from this page. → N-Ext liquid rates · Can I mix the bio-stimulants together?.

Do I have to water bio-stimulants in?

Yes—bio-stimulants should be watered into the soil so they can reach the turf’s root zone and work effectively. Watering helps move ingredients such as humic acid, sea kelp, and soil conditioners off the grass blades and into the soil. Chart → Do I have to water in Greene County’s N-Ext products?.

Can I apply fertilizer, pre-emergent, and Compaction Cure the same day?

Yes—you can. Apply the granular products first, spray the liquids over the top, and water them in together. Confirm in the App and label. → Can I apply multiple products the same day?.

Are bio-stimulants the same as fertilizer?

No. Bio-stimulants and fertilizers serve different purposes in lawn care. Fertilizer supplies nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium to feed turf and support growth. Bio-stimulants support the soil and root zone, helping grass use available nutrients and water more efficiently. Shop fertilizers → granular fertilizers.

Moisture Max is on this grid — where do I learn drought / moisture?

Moisture education stays on the moisture lane (not this collection essay). Start → Moisture Max (HC) · shop → soil moisture management. Hydr8 is the wetting-agent SKU on this grid (Hydr8 Liquicure).
