Yard Mastery
Yard Mastery’s pre-emergent herbicides stop crabgrass, poa annua, and other weeds before they sprout. Shop Prodiamine and Dimension as measured Drop-N-Go packets, spreader-ready granules, or a bulk WDG jug—the four products below cover the common DIY jobs.
Not sure which form or when to put it down? The free Yard Mastery App uses your grass type and soil temps to point you at the right product and timing.

Pre-emergent herbicide creates a barrier in the soil that stops many weed seeds from establishing after they germinate. You apply before the target weeds’ window, water in per the label, and keep the barrier intact—it does not “kill” mature weeds the way a post-emergent does.
Yard Mastery carries Prodiamine and Dimension (dithiopyr) in the forms DIY lawns actually use: packets, granules, and a bulk WDG jug. Deep timing and product science live in our Help Center—use this page to pick the right SKU, then open the Yard Mastery App for soil-temp timing.
Skip “best pre-emergent” guesswork. Match the job:
| Job | Product |
|---|---|
| Easy measured WDG packets (hose-end / sprayer mix) | Prodiamine WDG Herbicide Drop-N-Go Packs |
| Spreader granular Prodiamine (crabgrass / winter annuals) | 0-0-7 Prodiamine Granular Pre-Emergent Herbicide |
| Prefer Dimension / dithiopyr (early post + pre activity) | 0-0-7 Dimension (Dithiopyr) Granular Pre-Emergent Herbicide |
| Bulk WDG jug / Barricade® 65WDG brand alternative | Prodiamine 65 WDG Pre-Emergent 5 lb |
Still stuck? Use the Yard Mastery App—grass type and live soil temps beat calendar folklore.
Pre-emergent prevents many weeds from establishing. Fertilizer feeds the turf (NPK, iron, Bio-Nite™ on many Yard Mastery bags).
They are not the same product—even when a bag is 0-0-7 and sits next to fertilizers in a spreader. Shop fertilizer separately → granular fertilizers. All fertilizers → all fertilizers.
Cool-season (Kentucky bluegrass, fescue, rye): spring and fall pre-emergent windows matter most; watch false-spring cold snaps before you put product down.
Warm-season (bermuda, zoysia, St. Augustine, centipede, bahia): timing tracks soil warm-up and regional crabgrass / winter-annual pressure more than a northern calendar.
Same actives often work across grass types—when and rate change. The Yard Mastery App surfaces soil-temp context so you apply when the barrier can actually do its job. For deep timing, see When is the Best Time to Apply Pre-Emergent Herbicide?.
Yard Mastery pre-emergents are built for DIY rates you can actually apply: clear Prodiamine and Dimension options, packet convenience when you don’t want to measure bulk WDG, and granular bags for the spreader lane. American-made, pro-grade herbicides—not miracle claims, not fake “#1” rankings. Read the label, apply on time, water in.
It helps stop many weed seeds from establishing after germination by forming a soil barrier. It is not a post-emergent for mature weeds. Overview → Do you have a Pre-Emergent Guide?.
Packets = measured mix convenience (Drop-N-Go Packs). Granular = spreader (Prodiamine 0-0-7 or Dimension). Bulk jug = larger WDG jobs (Prodiamine 65 WDG 5 lb, Barricade® 65WDG brand alternative). The Yard Mastery App can recommend from grass type and timing.
Both are pre-emergents; Dimension (dithiopyr) also offers early post activity on some young weeds. Short answer here; deep comparison → Dimension (Dithiopyr) Demystified and What is Prodiamine Pre-Emergent?.
Follow soil temperature and your grass’s growth window—not a national calendar alone. Use App soil-temp tools, or read When is the Best Time to Apply Pre-Emergent Herbicide?.
Timing depends on the product and how recently you seeded. Pre-emergents can interfere with new seed establishment—check the label and How Soon AFTER Seeding Can I Apply Prodiamine?. Mesotrione is a different seeding-lane conversation; it is not in this four-product chooser.
No. Pre-emergents prevent weeds; fertilizers feed turf. Shop fertilizers → granular fertilizers.
Most DIY programs plan spring and/or fall windows by grass and weed pressure. Details → Do You Need to Apply Pre-Emergent Every Year?.
Yard Mastery sells Prodiamine 65 WDG as a brand alternative to Barricade® 65WDG—same active family, our SKU and label. See Prodiamine 65 WDG 5 lb. We do not sell a Barricade-branded product.
