How Air-8 and D-Thatch Work

The Air-8 and D-Thatch Combo combines two products that target different lawn and soil conditions.
Air-8 Liquid Aeration is designed to help loosen compacted soil by creating additional space between soil particles. This increased space can improve water penetration, oxygen movement, and the ability of turf roots to grow deeper into the soil profile. Air-8 is especially useful for lawns with hard, compacted, or clay-based soil.

D-Thatch Liquid Thatch Digester encourages microbial activity at the soil surface. These microbes help decompose organic material and break down thatch over time. D-Thatch works best during the hotter part of the growing season when microbial activity is naturally higher.
The two products may be used as part of the same lawn care program, but application instructions and watering requirements differ. Always follow the individual product labels.

What Is Lawn Thatch?

Thatch is a layer of dead and decomposing organic material that develops between actively growing grass and the soil surface. It may include stems, stolons, rhizomes, roots, and other plant material.
A thin thatch layer can benefit the lawn by helping retain moisture and moderate soil temperatures. However, excessive thatch can interfere with water movement, nutrient availability, and root growth.

D-Thatch is intended to help manage thatch buildup over time. It is not a replacement for mechanical dethatching when a lawn has a severe, thick, or heavily compacted thatch layer.

Compatible Grass Types

The N-Ext Air-8 and D-Thatch Combo can be used on labeled cool-season and warm-season grasses, including:

• Cool-season grasses: Kentucky bluegrass, Turf-type tall fescue, Fine fescue, and Ryegrass
  
• Warm-season grasses: Bermudagrass, St. Augustinegrass, Zoysiagrass, Centipedegrass, and Bahiagrass

Application Information

The Air-8 / D-Thatch Combo is applied in two separate applications because the products work in different places. Air-8 works in the soil, while D-Thatch works at the soil surface. Always follow each product’s label for application rates.

Shake well before using

Application 1: Soil application (Air-8)

• Air-8 supports water penetration, deeper rooting, and healthy soil conditions
  
• Use 6–9 oz of Air-8 per 1,000 sq ft
  
• Spray evenly using a pump sprayer, battery-powered sprayer, or hose-end sprayer
  
• When using a pump or battery-powered sprayer, water into the soil within 24 hours with ¼" of rainfall or irrigation
  
• Do not apply to saturated soil
  
• Rinse excess product from sidewalks, driveways, and other hard surfaces to help prevent staining
  

Application 2: Soil-surface application (D-Thatch)

• D-Thatch supports microbial activity and the natural breakdown of thatch
  
• Use 6–9 oz of D-Thatch per 1,000 sq ft
  
• Spray evenly on actively growing turf using a pump sprayer, battery-powered sprayer, or hose-end sprayer
  
• Works best during the hottest months of the growing season
  
• When using a pump or battery-powered sprayer, water the lawn for about 5 minutes after application for best results
