Most DIYers use this Prodiamine in the spring to stop crabgrass. Crabgrass is an annual grassy weed that germinates in spring, grows lime green and large during summer, and then, towards late fall, drops seeds. The following spring, the process starts all over again. This is why crabgrass is called an “annual” grass weed.
The good news is that crabgrass can be stopped effectively using this product. The best time to apply Prodiamine is in the spring or fall, as soil temperatures are between 55°F and 70°F. This will give you approximately 3 months of pre-emergence protection.

Application Information
- When to Apply: Best in spring or fall when soil temperatures are between 55°F and 70°F
- How to Apply: Use a broadcast or rotary spreader on a dry lawn
- Application Rate: 3 lbs per 1,000 sq ft
- Water-In: Water in with at least 1/2" of irrigation or rainfall within 48 hours
- Frequency: For crabgrass, apply twice in spring for best results
- Important: Do NOT use if seeding or reseeding, as Prodiamine will prevent seed germination
