Forget the tangled, over-the-top displays. With a solid plan and the right gear, you can create a display that’s clean, simple, and classy. Think perfect roofline outlines, warm glow, and tidy power runs—no inflatable Santas required.
Elevate your holiday decor with a "Clean, Simple, and Classy" light display. Our focus is on minimizing visible cords, showcasing the beauty of the lights, and avoiding cluttered or outdated decorations. Foundation: Roofline and Ridges
The roofline, along with ridges and hips, forms the essential frame of your Christmas light display. For these areas, C9 LED lights with 12-inch spacing are recommended for optimal visual appeal from a distance.
In short: seeding and feeding in the fall doesn’t just “patch up” your yard; it’s your best shot at a lush lawn that will make you and your neighbors look forward to spring—no “scorched earth” required.
A great Christmas light display starts with a strong foundation—and that foundation is the roofline. Clean, crisp lighting along the gutters, peaks, hips, and ridges creates the structure that frames your entire display. If you’re aiming for a polished, professional look that stands out without going over the top, this is the place to begin.
For a clean and balanced aesthetic, we recommend C9 bulbs on 12-inch spacing. This spacing provides excellent visibility from the street while maintaining an elegant, uncluttered appearance. In the past, many homeowners reached for “warm white” C9 LED lights from big-box stores. But while the packaging said “warm,” the lights often appeared closer to icy blue. Even improved versions never quite captured that nostalgic glow we all remember from classic incandescent lights.
That warm amber tone from traditional bulbs is what most of us associate with Christmas—but old-school incandescents come with some big drawbacks. They’re fragile, hot to the touch, limited to short runs (typically under 85 feet), and can overload circuits if you connect too many.
That’s why we recommend commercial-grade LED filament bulbs. They’re built to mimic the timeless look of incandescents while offering the durability, efficiency, and brightness of modern LED technology. These bulbs are made from thick, shatter-resistant plastic and can be run up to 250 feet on a single plug using commercial socket line and zip wire. They stay cool, last longer, and give off that cozy warm glow—without the risk of broken glass or tangled extension cords.
The key to a professional display is keeping things clean—hiding cords, trimming excess wire, and ensuring every bulb is perfectly placed. Custom-cut lighting lines let you control every detail of the layout, resulting in a display that’s truly yours.

Before you hang a single light, the first—and most important—step to a great Christmas light display is planning. That means grabbing a tape measure, sketching a simple diagram of your roofline, windows, and yard features, and deciding where each section of lights will go.
It may not be as exciting as plugging in the final display, but it saves you time, hassle, and unnecessary trips up and down the ladder. Remember Clark Griswold from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation? His heart was in the right place, but his lack of planning led to overloaded circuits, tangled wires, and a few too many broken bulbs.
We love the movie, but let’s not recreate the chaos. A little prep now means a clean, effective, and classy display that brings joy (not frustration) all season long.

Not all “warm white” lights are created equal. If you've ever bought LED lights from a big box store and noticed they looked more ice-blue than warm, you're not alone. Even though they're labeled the same, the quality and tone can vary drastically.
Older LED technology struggled to produce a true warm glow. Over time, newer options became slightly better, but they still couldn’t replicate that nostalgic incandescent feel.

Up Close Comparison
In the second image, you’ll see a close-up of a commercial LED filament bulb next to a store-bought LED. The LED filament mimics the tone and design of classic Christmas bulbs with a faux filament inside, while the big box store LED appears much cooler in comparison.
For the most classic Christmas glow, many homeowners once turned to old-school incandescent bulbs. These gave off the most soothing light—but at a cost. They’re hot, fragile, and can only be strung together in short lengths before overloading an outlet.
We now offer commercial-grade C9 LED filament bulbs that bring together the best of both worlds: beautiful warm tones and durability. These thick, plastic bulbs won’t break like glass, and you can string up to 250 feet on a single plug — making setup simpler and safer.

Both of these bulbs in the first photo are sold as “warm white” C9s, yet the difference in warmth and clarity is obvious. The commercial LED filament bulbs give off a far more authentic glow compared to the cooler tone of store-bought LEDs.

The third photo shows a side-by-side comparison of our commercial LED filament bulb next to an old-school incandescent bulb. The LED filament comes very close to replicating that nostalgic glow, but without the risk of breaking or overheating.
In the final image, you’ll see a full “warm white” comparison:

When designing your display, color temperature consistency matters. If you want that clean, cohesive, warm white look across your entire home, stick with commercial-grade LED filament bulbs. You’ll get the look of incandescent lights without the hassle—and your display will shine brighter and cleaner all season long.
We recommend watching all of the how-to videos below before jumping into your holiday light planning.
As you watch, keep your specific roofline in mind—especially how it’s laid out in relation to the location of your outdoor power outlets. This will help you map out your display more efficiently and avoid surprises during installation.
As you watch these videos, don’t worry—you don’t have to do everything exactly the same way.
We’ve built in options to make your setup easier. In fact, our Getting Started Bundle includes 100 feet of pre-assembled light lines—giving you a simple, semi-custom solution without the hassle of cutting wire or adding plugs. It’s the perfect entry point for a clean, professional-looking display with minimal effort.
Stick around until the end to see a side-by-side comparison between older store-bought LEDs and the new commercial-grade LEDs featured in our display. The difference in brightness, color, and quality is massive.
We also showcase the benefits of our Circle Clips, which integrate directly with the bulb base for a strong, secure hold. This design keeps the clips attached to the strand year after year—no more reattaching clips every season.
Both methods offer clean, secure installs, but one stands out in terms of simplicity and long-term durability. Be sure to watch until the end, where we compare store-bought LEDs with the commercial-grade LED filament bulbs.
This is one of the biggest advantages of using commercial-grade Christmas lighting systems. The flexibility to build your own power access points allows for a cleaner, more efficient setup—without the clutter of bulky extension cords. Once you see how easy and customizable this is, you’ll understand why so many people are switching to pro-level Christmas light displays.
We also take a closer look at the plugs themselves and explain the concept of polarity—what it means, why it matters (or doesn’t) with modern LED bulbs, and how to ensure your setup works correctly and safely. If you’re new to working with commercial light lines, this is a must-watch to avoid common mistakes and keep your display running smoothly all season long.
Now that you’ve completed the training videos, it’s time to take the next step: creating your plan.
Before diving into decorating, it’s important to measure and map out your home’s layout. Start by pulling up your house on Google Maps and taking screenshots for reference. Then, climb up on your roof with a tape measure and record the exact length of your roofline. If you plan to outline the ridges and hips, measure those as well.
While there are digital tools available to estimate measurements, we strongly recommend measuring manually with a tape measure. It’s the most accurate way to ensure you order the correct amount of light line, bulbs, and clips—and avoid surprises when installation begins.
💡 Pro Tip: Save money by purchasing one of our bundle packages that includes everything you need to get started.
Here’s an example map we created of a roof and ridge layout:

Once you’ve measured your roofline and ridges, the next step is to determine how many plug-in points your setup will require. Revisit the training video on Maximum Amperage and Length to guide your decision. For reference, our full display—covering the entire roofline, ridges, ground lights, window outlines, and doors—runs on just four plugs total. That’s right: the entire house, lit from top to bottom, using only four power connections.
That’s why we emphasized watching all the how-to videos first. Understanding the process ahead of time helps you visualize everything clearly. The truth is, this isn’t difficult—it’s actually super simple, incredibly rewarding, and even fun.
Unlike lawn care, where results may take a season or longer, with Christmas lights, the results are instant. You’ll plug them in and immediately see the magic.
When you’re ready to build a custom holiday lighting setup that turns heads, you’ll want to start with the right foundation. Here’s a quick overview of the essential components we recommend for clean, professional-grade results.
Designed for perfectionists who want that “magazine-cover” look. These clips integrate directly with the socket, locking into place between the bulb and light line so they stay securely fastened — even during storage.
Every single bulb gets its own clip, maintaining flawless 12” spacing from end to end.

Every light deserves a secure and professional fit — and that starts with choosing the right clip. We offer three clip styles to help you achieve a clean, consistent look across your roofline, gutters, and ridges.

Lighting your ridges and hips adds serious visual punch. Ridge Clip Pro spans across the top of your shingles or ridge vents without lifting or damaging roofing materials.

Need a classic clip with extra versatility? Our All-In-One Clips hold lights horizontally on gutters or vertically under shingles. Made from thick, UV-resistant plastic, they outperform typical store-bought clips.
We also carry Shingle Tab Clips, perfect for tighter-fitting shingles where a slimmer insert is needed to slide under the edge.

💡 Pro Tip:For the best display, we recommend giving every single bulb its own clip — whether it’s on the roofline or a ridge. This keeps spacing tight and consistent at 12” intervals, giving your setup that clean, simple, and classy look.
Once your roofline and key structures are framed, consider adding extra touches that bring depth and charm to your display:
💡 Pro Tip: If you live in a snowy region and plan to install net lights on the ground, we recommend wrapping electrical tape around the plug connections to keep moisture out during freeze/thaw cycles.
Because we used a 1,000 ft reel of light line, we were able to outline not just our roofline and ridges, but also every window, door, and garage bay—all using the same C9 LED bulbs in custom-cut strands. We connected everything using vampire plugs and jump cords, which gave us a clean, professional finish without tangled extension cords or visible wires.

To truly tie the whole display together from top to bottom, we introduced what we call The Ground Game—a method of installing net lights throughout landscape beds and low-lying areas. These lights create a soft, snowy glow that completes the look.
