RGS™ (Root Growth Stimulant) is a liquid bio-stimulant formulated to strengthen turf from the ground up by stimulating root growth, improving soil structure, increasing stress tolerance, and supporting microbial activity. It is the foundational product in all Yard Mastery and Lawn Care Nut lawn care programs.
Formulated by John Perry of Greene County Fertilizer Company, RGS combines two of the most researched and trusted bio-stimulants in turf management: sea kelp extract and humic acid. This combination enhances rooting, improves nutrient availability, buffers fertilizer applications, and supports long-term soil health.
RGS is ideal for DIY homeowners looking to build stronger roots, improve fertilizer efficiency, and maintain healthier lawns throughout the growing season. It cannot burn the lawn and is safe for repeated use.
What does RGS Root Growth Stimulant do?
RGS stimulates root growth and soil biology using sea kelp plant hormones and humic acid to improve nutrient uptake, soil structure, and stress tolerance.
How do you apply RGS to a lawn?
For backpack or pump sprayers, mix 6–9 ounces of RGS per gallon of water and apply evenly across 1,000 square feet of lawn. For hose-end sprayers, add 12-18 oz in the sprayer, fill the rest of the bottle with water and spray evenly across 2,000 sq ft.
RGS can be applied every 30–45 days during the growing season. Water the product into the soil within 24 hours using approximately ¼ inch of rainfall or irrigation. Always follow the product label for complete application instructions.
How much lawn does RGS cover?
Coverage depends on the container size and application rate. One gallon of RGS covers up to 42,600 square feet at the 3-ounce rate or 21,300 square feet at the 6-ounce rate. A quart covers up to 10,650 square feet, while a 2.5-gallon container covers up to 106,500 square feet at the low application rate.
Can RGS be used on all types of grass?
Yes. RGS can be used on common cool-season grasses, including Kentucky bluegrass, turf-type tall fescue, and perennial ryegrass. It can also be applied to warm-season grasses such as Bermuda, St. Augustine, zoysia, centipede, and Bahia. RGS may be applied on its own or alongside compatible lawn-care products, including granular fertilizers and other N-Ext products. Always check product labels before combining applications.
