After the Triple Dark combo (Double Dark + Spoon Juice), a lot of you asked for more ways to push cool-season color while fall growth is still on. This one is the Fall Nitrogen Blitz: small, steady nitrogen (and iron where we spray) from now until dormancy — without dumping a heavy single hit that fights you later.

The Fall Nitrogen Blitz is the optional “have some fun with green” track for tall fescue, Kentucky bluegrass, and rye while the window is open.

What is a Fall Nitrogen Blitz?

Cool-season grass puts on a real growth push in fall. A Fall Nitrogen Blitz takes advantage of that window by spoon-feeding small amounts of nitrogen on a short cadence (about every 7–14 days) until the lawn slows toward dormancy. The goal is maximum green color and steady feed — without overdoing it in one big application.

You get two options below: one bag, one time (Busy Man), or liquids in the backpack / hose-end if you like spraying.

Path A: The Busy Man’s Fall Nitrogen Blitz (Pre-Ban 40-0-0)

40-0-0 Pre-Ban is a polymer-coated, controlled-release urea nitrogen fertilizer. One application at 5 lbs per 1,000 sq ft puts down 2 lbs of nitrogen per 1,000 sq ft. That nitrogen releases over about 120 days (around 4 months), which works out to roughly ½ lb of nitrogen per 1,000 sq ft per month — a built-in spoon feed from a single pass.

Why it fits a Busy Man blitz:

1. Apply once at 5 lbs / 1,000 sq ft (heavier than typical Yard Mastery bag rates — that’s intentional for this coated product).
2. Water in per the label (aim for about ¼ inch within 48 hours when turf is dry and you’re not racing a washout storm).
3. Walk away — the coating meters the nitrogen over the months ahead.

This is not new science. Long-duration poly-coated nitrogen has been around since Allyn’s TruGreen days in the late 1990s; the coatings are simply better now. Applied as directed, the coated nitrogen is protected so you’re not dumping all 2 lbs of N at once onto the leaf.

Path B: Spray and Pray Fall Nitrogen Blitz (MicroGreene + Spoon Juice)

If you already love the Yard Mastery 4-Gallon Backpack Sprayer, this path is for you. Mix:

• 0-0-2 MicroGreene (micronutrients + iron + kelp / humic support; potassium at 0-0-2)
• 5-0-1 Spoon Juice (light nitrogen + 3% iron + kelp / humic)

Together you get a low-nitrogen, high-iron foliar/soil stack with sea kelp on both sides. Older MicroGreene could not mix cleanly with other liquids; the reformulated (“thinned” jug) is built to mix. Backpack mix (per 1,000 sq ft)

• 6 oz MicroGreene + 6 oz Spoon Juice into 1 gallon of water → covers 1,000 sq ft
• On a 4-gallon backpack: 24 oz MicroGreene + 24 oz Spoon Juice → spray 4,000 sq ft

Use a finer mist tip when you can. With the newer formulations, Allyn’s preference is to let the spray sit on the leaf for foliar uptake. If you water it in or it rains, the stack still works through the root system — you may just wait a little longer for the visual.

Hose-end mix (32 oz tank)

• 12 oz MicroGreene + 12 oz Spoon Juice, top off with water
• Spray 2,000 sq ft
• Same idea: let it sit after spraying when you’re chasing foliar color

Cadence and jug math

• Re-apply about every 10–14 days (every 7 days if you want to play — keep rates as above; this is still a light spoon-feed stack)
• At 6 oz of each product per 1,000 sq ft, a full gallon jug of each goes a long way on a typical 5,000 sq ft lawn (multiple applications across the fall window)
• Always follow the product labels for rate ceilings, hard-surface rinse, and state restrictions
